Melissa and Doug Educational Toys we love!!

Melissa & Doug Educational Toys

We love Melissa & Doug children’s toys and we’re really proud to have their range on the website. There are two main reasons why we love them. Firstly, because the company was actually set up by Melissa and Doug - it’s not a made up name, and it’s a lovely, friendly family business. And secondly because their toys are fantastic, traditional, and great quality.

Melissa & Doug Wooden Toys History..

Melissa and Doug started the company from the garage at Doug’s parents’ house, twenty-five years ago - Doug asked Melissa to start a company with him, because he was too scared to ask her to marry him! All this time later, they are happily married and Melissa and Doug still actively run the business. Although their staff has grown with the business, they treat them like a family. We think that’s the best way to run a business, and we love to work with people who share our idea’s. When you’re working with children’s toys, you need to be young at heart and always ready to laugh & have fun - and those are two things you can definitely say about all of the staff at Melissa & Doug. We always find it a bit disconcerting if someone who works in any role within a toy company goes to work wearing a suit and a frown don’t you? If you’re working with children’s toys, you need to be wearing grubby jeans, and a massive grin!

Why We Love Melissa & Doug Traditional Wooden Toys

We absolutely adore the traditional wooden toys from Melissa & Doug. The things we played with when we
were kids, and our parents before us too, are still great fun for little people these days. Things like alphabet blocks, wooden cars and lorries and dolls’ houses, all beautifully crafted and painted, are a joy to play with for children and adults alike. So many parents have come back to us to say how much they found themselves enjoying the toys they’d bought for their children - reliving their own childhoods, and playing happily with their children in a way that you just can’t do with a TV show or a video game. There’s just something about a traditional wooden train with wooden tracks, isn't there. Even as adults, we can lose ourselves for hours setting up tracks that go all around the living room, under and over and around itself. And we've yet to meet a child who didn't want to join in with building the track and pushing the trains around. We love that as well as beautifully crafted dolls’ houses with furniture, there’s also a medieval castle for knights to battle in and around. The workmanship in the wooden toys is really second to none - after all, we only want to sell the best quality toys at www.littlehappytoys.co.uk.
